Columbia, Maryland, a 14,000-acre planned community located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. Begun in 1967, this award-winning community is being developed by The Howard Research & Development Corporation, an affiliate of General Growth Properties, Inc.

Retail/Commercial: Columbia has nearly 4.8 million square feet of retail/commercial space. More than 500 stores and restaurants are located in The Mall in Columbia, Dobbin Center, Snowden Square, Columbia Crossing, the Columbia Restaurant Park, nine Village Centers, and numerous other locations.

In addition to more than 5,300 acres of land set aside for parks, playgrounds and natural open space areas, there is a broad array of recreational facilities and services offered by the Columbia Association (CA), Howard County Parks and Recreation, and private firms.
Tax Base: The total assessable tax base of Columbia is over $7.1 billion, of which approximately $2.3 billion is the assessed commercial value and more than $4.8 billion is residential.
