The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center is a unique home for the arts, showcasing the works of leading regional and local artists, as well as hosting traveling exhibitions.


Cousteau Society

Overlooking the scenic Hampton River, visitors get a close-up look at the extraordinary man who captured the wonders of the undersea world on film. Visitors to the center will see artifacts from Cousteau's explorations, replicas of the famous research vessels Calypso and Alcyone, diving equipment, a shark cage and more. Gift shop. Free admission.


Hampton Carousel

The Hampton Carousel is located next to the Virginia Air and Space Center. The carousel, housed in its own pavilion on the city's downtown waterfront, has been fully restored to its original beauty identical to when it was built in 1920. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still in existence in the United States. Open Easter - December, Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday, 12 noon - 5 p.m. Admission is $1 per ride. Tickets can be purchased at the Virginia Air and Space Center.


Hampton History Museum

The museum's ten permanent galleries share Hampton's history from its early occupation by the Kecoughtan Tribe through the 20th century. A changing gallery is located on the second floor. Gift shop. Open Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; closed Sunday. Admission: $5 adults; $4 children ages 4 - 12, active military, active NASA and seniors; $3 group tours of 10 or more. Free admission for children age 4 and under.


Hampton University Museum

Founded in 1868, the museum is the oldest African American museum in the U.S. and one of the oldest museums in Virginia. The museum features a collection of 1,200 artifacts and works of art, including traditional African, Native American, Asian and Pacific Islander. A changing gallery showcases new and established artists. Open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday - Sunday, 12 noon - 4 p.m.; closed major holidays and campus holidays. Admission is free.

Start your day at the Hampton Visitor Center, located inside the new Hampton History Museum. Here you will see an orientation video and find a wealth of information about the area, including maps, brochures and Hampton gift ideas. Open Monday - Sunday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and January 1.

Go where the fish are with Captain Howard Wainwright aboard his 65' headboat. Departing from the Hampton Public Piers at 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. daily.
