Drawing crowds nightly, Sondra Bernstein's nouveau-country cafe in Sonoma offers figs in one form or another, including the delectable winter fig salad made with arugula, pecans, dried figs, goat cheese and fig-and-port vinaigrette. This fig is French, and the cuisine is just as comfy as the Provence-inspired Sonoma restaurant.

In Sonoma's Historic Plaza, this lively Napa restaurant offers traditional Mexican food, sans burritos and tacos, but including ceviche, a hot Prawns Diablo and a spit-roasted and Yucatan spice rubbed Maya Chicken. The guacamole comes in volcanic rock, like the walls, the ceiling is painted sky blue and Maya's Temple of Tequila serves the kind of clean, refreshing Margaritas that make Agave proud.
