About General Motors Place The General Motors Place grand opening was on September 17, 1995 with General Motors of Canada as the title sponsor. The building opened with a laser light show and an open house to the public. Located at a downtown site adjacent to B.C. Place (home of the B.C. Lions CFL football team); seats 19,056 for hockey and 20,004 for the NBA Vancouver Grizzlies. Includes 88 luxury suites and cost $125 million (US).
