Local Seasons: Duluth is a city that embraces its weather. Whether it's a sports activity, shopping, attending a festival, Hawk watching, or just enjoying a warm fire, this city has a season for it. Winter is chilly for most people with temperatures often below 0 F and plenty of snow. It's a great time to watch the Sled Dog Marathon, held in February. Spring begins to appear in April with temperatures rising each day. You can expect a little late snow in April but each day is crisp and exciting. It's the perfect time to spend a day at the Homegrown Music Festival, an annual, outdoor spring event. Summer is the time people truly enjoy and is the most popular. Lake Superior is dotted with boats, festivals are occurring, and people can be seen everywhere. The Lake Superior Swim and Beach Run takes place in June and is a great event for participating or watching. Fall, which tends to begin early, brings with it the colors of the season. A favorite fall pastime is Hawk watching, held at the Nature Reserve each year. It's the perfect time for a brisk walk and a warm drink. If arriving by air or bus, rental cars and taxis are available. During the summer months, trolley and tram services are available.
