Auburn Attractions: Auburn is home to many attractions and recreation facilities to further enhance your enjoyment of the area, whether you are visiting or make it your home. In addition to the following attractions, Auburn also has a 9-hole public golf course, a large indoor swimming pool, and a network of trails for jogging, horseback riding and bicycling. Several of our historic buildings have been renovated with special care to preserve our architectural heritage, and continue to reflect Auburn's history. A flurry of economic development downtown has also brought the Auburn Transit Center & Plaza on the Tacoma-to-Seattle Sounder rail line and the new Truitt Building, the first new construction on Main Street in three decades. Adjacent to one another are both locally owned historic businesses and a modern state-of-the-art hospital. Downtown Auburn remains a vibrant and vital retail, service, city government and medical center of the Green River Valley. The Auburn Downtown Association (ADA), an organization committed to the future of downtown Auburn, has been serving area businesses since 1988. Their long-running Sidewalk Sale & Hometown Picnic happens the third week of July every year and has grown into one of the more popular summer festivals in the area. The ADA provides centralized management; works to strengthen and broaden the economic base; encourages visual improvements through good design; and promotes the downtown area as Auburn's social, cultural and economic center. ADA's mission is to enhance the downtown business environment and make it a better place to live, work, visit and shop. Emerald Downs Experience the Sport of Kings at the Northwest's premiere thoroughbred racetrack. Emerald Downs, a magnificent 167-acre facility, offers the finest in racing excitement for fans of all ages. The Northwest's best thoroughbreds can be found racing on the Auburn oval, while Mount Rainier provides a stunning backdrop. Emerald Downs' six-level stadium is focused on the finish line. Whether you choose our Trackside Tent, or high atop the grandstand in one of the luxurious Triple Crown Suites, you won't miss a bit of the action. State-of-the-art video coverage brings the action up close with more than 550 monitors located throughout the facility. The highlight of every year is the running of the $250,000 Longacres Mile (Gr. III). This year marks the 69th running of the mile. The big race, which features the West Coast's best mid-distance runners, will go postward on August 22nd. Fans of all ages will enjoy a variety of special events throughout our racing season. Families can gather in the Paddock Park on summer Sundays to enjoy racing and special Family Day activities that include pony rides, face-painting clowns, magicians and much more. Muckleshoot Casino The Muckleshoot Casino offers something for everyone! The spacious casino will make you believe that you are standing in Las Vegas or Reno. Muckleshoot features 2,000 machines, over 65 tables, live poker and keno. Muckleshoot has all your favorite games such as blackjack, craps, roulette and baccarat. The machines feature Wheel of Fortune, Texas Tea, Little Green Men, Red, White, & Blue, 10X Pay, Wild Cherry, Haywire, Video Poker, Video Keno and Penny Junction. White River Amphitheatre This state-of-the-art amphitheatre includes plenty of amenities. Of the 20,000 capacity, approximately 9,000 seats are under the amphitheatre roof. There is ample parking and diverse food and beverage service on The Plaza. The site also houses the River Lodge (a 6,000-square-foot lounge), the Bear and Wolf Houses (all ages cafes), and four separate restroom buildings featuring hot and cold running water. White River offers an outstanding VIP experience for companies and individuals looking to entertain friends, family and clients. White River Amphitheatre is owned by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and operated by Clear Channel Entertainment. Clear Channel Entertainment owns and operates more than 45 amphitheatres nationally, and is the world's largest promoter of live events. SuperMall of the SuperMall, which opened in 1995, is the Northwest's largest outlet mall. Encompassing 1.2 million square feet, SuperMall features a single-level oval design with four themed entrances and over 130 stores. These stores include such name brands as Kenneth Cole New York, Tommy Hilfiger Factory Store, Banana Republic Factory Store, Liz Claiborne Outlet, to name just a few. You'll also enjoy a 1950s diner experience in the area's only Johnny Rockets restaurant. For families, SuperMall offers a play area as well as a nursing lounge for mothers who prefer a more private environment. The Guest Service Center, which is located in the Train Court, is open all mall hours to assist guests. Regal Auburn 17 Theaters Enjoy a movie-going experience at Cinema 17. The theater is located adjacent to the SuperMall. Cinema 17 opened in 1996, and features 17 stadium riser auditoriums, all digital sound, snack bar, and ample parking. This large, 63,000-square-foot building has an airport theme with a plane suspended from the lobby ceiling. The luminous neon tower can be seen for miles. Here at Cinema 17, it's always more than a movie. Washington National Located on the scenic Auburn plateau, Washington National Golf Club was co-designed by John Fought and Orrin Vincent. Washington National combines world-class golf with a campus-like atmosphere as the entire project features a University of Washington theme. The par-72 layout is already recognized as one of the Northwest's golfing treasures. The bunkers, with their long noses and flashed white sand faces, are spectacular, the water features are breathtaking, and the design is simply world-class. Like many of the game's great courses, Washington National's layout gradually increases in challenge and splendor as it builds to a crescendo over the final five holes. The brilliant design is enhanced with impeccable playing conditions, contrasting transitional areas, and its sheer grandeur. There is no doubt that, with a little maturity and exposure to golf's ruling bodies, Washington National will take its place among some of America's greatest golfing venues. Washington National also includes a state- of-the-art practice facility with a 25-plus stall grass hitting area, practice bunker, chipping green and putting green. Washington National hosted the 2002 NCAA Women's Golf Championship and will play host to the 2003 NCAA Men's Western Regional golf tournament, as well as the 2003 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier. Auburn Golf Course The Auburn Golf Course is an 18-hole course in a scenic setting along the Green River. The course is a full-service facility with a pro shop, snack bar, power cart rentals, and lessons are available. The course is open to the public and offers a challenge to golfers of all skill levels. The Auburn Golf Course supports many junior golf activities and encourages youngsters to get involved in the game. The staff is dedicated to help you develop your skills and interest in golf. Tapps Island Golf Course Enjoy an excellent view of Mt. Rainier on most holes at the Tapps Island Golf Course. Rated "The Best 9-Hole Public Course in the Northwest" by Inside Golf, Tapps Island golfers enjoy low all-day rates October through February. The large undulating greens are always in excellent shape and play dry in winter. Tapps Island has a country club setting but is open to the public. A full-service bar and restaurant, lessons, cart rentals, full-service men and women's clubs, pro-shop, and group event and senior rates are available. White River Valley Museum A surprising secret - Auburn has the best local history museum in the state. The award-winning White River Valley Museum, located in Les Gove Park, is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4 pm. New exhibits tell the story of Auburn, from Native American history to the 1920s, featuring a pioneer cabin, a Northern Pacific caboose, and a 1924 downtown scene. Rotating exhibits are fun and change quarterly. Open hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 pm.
The City of Auburn Parks and Recreation Department offers a comprehensive program of recreational, educational and cultural activities and programs for citizens of all ages. The program offerings include sports and activities for preschool children, youth, teen, adults and seniors, in addition to developmentally disabled children and adults. The department operates the Auburn Senior Activity Center, which enhances the lives of senior adults through social, recreational, health and wellness, educational and nutritional services and programs. The cultural arts program presents performances in the parks, at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, and the Auburn Riverside Theatre. The department operates the Auburn Golf Course, the White River Valley Museum, and the Mountain View Cemetery. The city's parks include several picnic shelters, four rental facilities, and Game Farm Wilderness Park's recreational vehicle campsites. |
